STaRS depends on donations, grants and volunteer time. We exist both for the community, and because of the community. Our donors and volunteers are crucial to our success.
STaRS Wish List
Become A STaRS Donor! We are always looking for new donors to join our roster of STaRS donors. No amount is too small (or too big!). We have a number of different sponsorship opportunities outlined below, but are also always glad to receive any donation. We are a registered non-profit charity, and will issue tax-deductible receipts for donations of $25 or more.
Bursaries
Therapeutic riding bursaries:
$75 for one 30-minute ride
$105 for one 45-minute ride
$1,950 for one 30-minute ride for 6 months
$3,900 for one 30 minutes ride for 12 months
$2,730 for one 45-minute ride for 6 months
$5,460 for one 45-minute ride for 12 months
Equine Facilitated Counselling and Wellness:
$155 for 1 one hour session
$620 for 4 one hour sessions
$1240 for 8 one hour sessions
STaRS Wishes & Needs
$25,000 – Program Facility Rental (riding ring)
STaRS is looking to rent a working ring so riders can safely learn and practice more advanced riding and horsemanship skills.
$12,000 – Sponsor a STaRS horse
This is the approximate cost per year to keep a horse, and hence a very large expense.
$5,000 – Adaptive Equipment Fund
Adaptive saddles, stirrups, hand holds are included in this fund. Right now we are looking to purchase new bareback pads and rainbow reins to help with our new Covid-19 return to riding plan.
$900 – Annual Farrier care per horse
STaRS horses spent a great deal of time walking on the roads. Their hooves need regular and special care.
$3,000 – Horse Training
This includes the skills that a therapeutic horse needs like standing still at the mounting ramp, being comfortable and safe while led on either side.
$5,000 – Instructor Training
STaRS instructors need to be specially trained and certified. They also constantly need to be updating their knowledge and skills.
$1000 – Volunteer Development, Networking and Appreciation activities
